Presenter: Laura Larqué
Date, Time, Location: Wednesday, March 11th, 12:00 - 1:30 pm, Bertolini Student Activities Center (SAC)
Event Description: La Llorona, the Weeping Woman: a benign children’s scary story, or a misogynistic and racist ideology that emerged during the Spanish colonial system in Mexico?
Laura Larqué will discuss the negative effect that La Llorona, or The Weeping Woman, has had on Mexican folklore. The legend’s legacy has portrayed Mestiza and Indigenous women as vengeful figures who would rather kill their own children than lose their Spanish lover.
